This is, no doubt, an amazing cathedral. Beautiful on the inside. But I can never get over the fact that for millennia man is constructed these enormous palaces at an unconscionable expense.

Amazing gothic architecture with breathtaking baroque interieur. Recently renovated main hall with renovations in presbyterium ongoing. Great new lighting concept (albeit questinable choice of lamp-design) that shows you the interieurs timeless art from all angles. If you plan on attending a holy catholic mass service, choose a time when a choir sings, Graz has great choirs and the cathedral great accoustics. It's also a historicaly interesting building and it has an emperors mausoleum right next to it.

The cathedral (Domkirche) in Graz is magnificent. The Cathedral is a mix of Gothic and Baroque style. It was built at the time Graz was the seat of Emperor Frederick III, in the 15th century. Graz Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Giles. It is the seat of the bishop of the Steiermark diocese. The exterior of the cathedral looks very sober today. In the Gothic period, however, the facades were covered with paintings. One cool has been preserved, the so-called Gottesplagenbild ('God's Plagues'). Marks the terrible plague of the late 15th century. Since it was considered to be the plague of God's punishment, the fresco displays a plea for forgiveness and reconciliation. The frescoes in the church date from the times of Emperor Frederick III. Among them: a fragment showing St. Christopher, clearly recognizable as Frederick wearing the Styrian ducal crown. The interior of the church is richly decorated and full of beautiful paintings. It feels good energy and the atmosphere is pleasant.

An imposing cathedral with a very ornate interior. Take your time to admire the details of the sculptures and the smaller side alters. Entrance is free but a donation is appreciated. Also don’t miss the frescoe outside behind the glass, albeit faded and unclear, but the description underneath is informative.

The exterior of the church isn't too attractive, but the inside is very beautiful. It is worth to take a look, and next the church you can also visit the Mausoleum.
