When the Puchberg Castle came into the possession of Alfred Ritter von Jurnitschek, he also had the associated Meierhof redesigned. Among other things, a coal gasification plant with a gasometer was built. At first the gas was used directly for lighting with gas lamps. A gas-powered motor with a generator was later installed and the castle had electric light by the end of the 19th century.
