Awesome venue with a very modern feel. Sadly no english descriptions next to the artworks but otherwise great!

The Essl Ausstellung was great. The rooms themselves of the Albertina Modern do not pick up the expressive outside appearance of the building.
The ESSL Collections was not bad but the general display was a little bit disappointed. The building inside looks great. Unfortunately the ESSL collections did not have English version.
The Albertina modern is a museum of contemporary art that opened as the second location of the Vienna Albertina on 27 May 2020 in the Künstlerhaus Wien. With over 60,000 works by 5,000 artists, it is one of the major museums for contemporary art. The entrepreneur Hans Peter Haselsteiner and the general director of the Albertina Klaus Albrecht Schröder set themselves the common goal of permanently preserving the Essl Collection and relocating it from Lower Austria to the Austrian federal capital Vienna. Together with the Essl family, they agreed to found a separate museum for modern art under the leadership of the Albertina after merging the Essl Collection with the Albertina's contemporary art collections. This plan was supported from the outset by the respective ministers of culture, Josef Ostermayer, Thomas Drozda, Gernot Blümel and Alexander Schallenberg, who endorsed the founding of the Albertina's second location. The Künstlerhaus on Karlsplatz in Vienna, in which Hans Peter Haselsteiner had acquired a majority stake in 2016, was won as the location for the museum. By establishing the Künstlerhaus Besitz- und Betriebsgesellschaft, the latter undertook to renovate the association's formerly magnificent exhibition house and modernise it according to the Albertina's museological specifications. Thus, this architectural masterpiece of historicism became the home of the museum on an area of over 2,000 m² on the ground floor and basement of the building. The upper floor is used by the Künstlerhaus association, Gesellschaft bildender Künstler Österreichs.
Thoughtfully curated work, beautiful space and very friendly staff. Fresh, new and overall just great!
