The mission of IOV is to increase the awareness and appreciation of all forms of folk art and folk culture. We recognize that the world’s cultural wealth is found in the diversity of its people and is expressed in folk traditions. IOV seeks to enhance the opportunities for those who are the keepers of society’s traditions to transmit their knowledge and skills to members of younger generations. We recognize that in order for folk culture to benefit future generations, it must not survive only as recorded memories of past generations, but in the living traditions of people today. IOV is dedicated to researching, documenting, transmitting and presenting all forms of ethnic and indigenous folk art and folk culture, both tangible and intangible, as a means to accomplish our goals.
