During summer I took the opportunity to take a guided tour and I was astonished.

Awesome place to drop by when you combine it with the visit to the Roman City Carnuntum. Museum itself is not big, but covers pretty much all aspects of the Roman society in and around Carnuntum. Many excavated relics, monuments, tomb stones, there is a video section there, many maps. Cool :-)
Small, but well explained exhibition. Food for thought
Day trip to Carnuntum - the museum was the last stop on our tour, having started with the city of Carnuntum and the amphitheatre. The museum offers a great insight into the local Roman history, culture and importance of Carnuntum in the Roman empire. Well worth a visit and it was included in the entry price for all of the attractions.
Part of archeological park Petronell - Carnuntum with excavations from this place. For one ticket you can see this museum, military amphitheater and reconstructed Roman city quarter in civil city.
The museum has a fine collection of locally found Roman artefacts, ranging from statues and sacrificial alters, to coins and houseware, to weapons. You can buy an entrance ticket that covers the three paid sites in Carnuntum.
The museum is ok but nothing special. Of the different sites to see around the Carnuntinum archaeological site, this might be the least interesting.
Museum itself was a little bit boring for kids. Small exposition. Overall I recommend it.
