This is a unique place and for me more about the experience than anything. It feels a bit intimidating because its geared up for locals, but that's why it's fun to experience. I was on my own but felt totally safe and once I worked out the system, had fun. It's an absolutely massive place, but can still be tricky to get a seat at a busy time. As far as I could tell it was a grab a gap system. There are a range of food stalls in the entry way serving food that goes with beer. Bread, sausages, schnitzels etc. Not badly priced and decent quality The beer is brewed on site (historically by monks) and comes in two size steins. Yoi grab your own tankard, pay and then go get filled up, sit back and enjoy. If you're looking to be waited on with a selection of craft beers, this is not for you, but if you like to try something very specific to Salzburg and just roll with what happens then I think this would be for you. I imagine in good weather the garden is a very fun time.

A good experience all round. Would recommend arriving around 2:30 to secure a table and to ensure you get freshly prepared food. Line up, ask for 0.5l or 1 litre, grab a jug, wash it out, and hand it to the guy to fill from the tap. No problems ordering in English but don't mess around, come prepared as there can be a lot of locals eager to get their beer and don't want to wait for someone to find change or decide what they want at the cashier. Food isn't bad for the place and we had a good time relaxing in the shade for a few hours. Would happily return if I visit Salzburg again.

We've had a great beer garden experience here on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Got some juicy rotisserie chicken and a sausage, washed down with their signature Marzen and life is good.

Awesome cheap beer, generous portions of meat, great atmosphere. Of the variety of food we ordered, the ribs were the best together with coleslaw and baked potatoes. Very good value for money, and the tables were largely full of locals. Beer is fresh and delightful

Apparently this place is an institution but it's actually very disappointing. After waiting around for ten minutes before we could seat (even though we were only two), we discovered there is only one beer available (the one they make on the premises apparently). It might not have been a problem, but the thing is this bier is extra common, it really tastes like the cheapest lager you can find anywhere in the world. Frankly, it was the worst beer we had in Salzburg, not that it was awful but it was not \good\ either at all. Plus, the place is huge and as a consequence the service is very impersonal. The pint is maybe 50 cts to 1 euro cheaper than elsewhere in the city (around 3,5) but beers are not the most expensive thing in Austria anyway so I'd rather pay slightly more and have better quality.

Was a tip from my Taxi driver and I’m still tipping my hat to him. What a fantastic and authentic experience, a must for any visitor to Salzburg. Wonderful experience with friendly staff and patrons. I was travelling solo and ended up having a blast with some local lads. Beer is absolutely delicious and the food is exceptional.

Interesting place to be at, definitely worth a visit. There are many halls to dine in (smoking halls too), almost like a huge communal dining area. We had beer, cola, schnitzel and loads of meat. Spent about 10 euros per person. Food and beer are not the best, but worth visiting for the experience. The place is fun, lively and enjoyable. Go early to avoid the crowd. If you smoke, you can use the smoking halls, those have less people.

Okay, this is an experience. Basically a one-flavor brewery with what amounts to a food court and several dining halls. Nothing really memorable aside from the get-your-own-stein thing (compete with line). A very authentic Austrian experience, popular with the locals.
