As someone already said before you should do the guided tour if you have the Salzburg Card. The guide is very knowledgeable and you can sense that he is really into it. The history of the place is long, very interesting and needs to be understood for understanding Salzburg. The festival itself is extremely expensive, but there is a reason for that. You get what you pay for. The scene, the singers, the Orchestra, the whole setup and every little detail is perfection. If you can easily afford the ticket I would say its worth it.

Interesting building in part built into the side of a sheer cliff. Features briefly in the Sound of Music.
very high quality of art and music. If you can afford the price for a ticket in the festival house, you should book a concert or an opera. It is a special experience to see the best artists worldwide to perform.
Excellent place for concerts... Attended mozarteumorchester and it was excellent... Book tickets in advance or buy at the place on the day of the concert if available...
The best music festival
Tchaikovsky Fifth symphony in submission by Wiener philharmoniker. One word - amazing.
It’s a matter of choice, I fount this place just okay. Need to be careful while selecting a guide else your whole trip will be ruined. Extremely expensive festival. If you love orchestra then visit this place. There are so many other things to do in Salzburg, I personally enjoyed the mesmerising view of mountains, delicious food.
Salzburg is a truly beautiful city, if you get the chance visit, it should be on your bucket list, if not... what’s wrong with you.
