Instruct lacks awareness. My first visit he severely injured my knee. I Had been practicing Taichi for about a year and a half. While I was in Vienna, I wanted to expand my taichi community and learn some new perspectives. I came in one day to observe. The ‘teacher’ told me to sit on the side and said he would “show me” a few things after. Once he finished, he proceeded to set up some mats and called me over. We started doing push hands. About 20 seconds in he started to become very aggressive (like it was a tournament?..) and aggressively flipped me, and threw me down. He continued to throw me down 3 more times. The last time my knee popped out of its socket, and I was in severe pain. a few of his ‘students’ were gathered around and were smiling at me while I lay on the mat in severe pain... I guess they thought it was entertaining to watch their ‘teacher’ beat up a novice. Again I had no intention to harm anyone or to prove myself, I just wanted to practice. This version of push hands was not how I was taught- I was taught that push hands is about testing your partners balance, not about aggressively taking them down the first chance you get. There is a difference between practicing push hands and all out sparing.. this guy, for whatever reason decided to pick on me? I was just there to learn, just a student, I did not claim to know much. This was his version of “showing me some things.” 3.5 years later my knee is still tender. This man is a bad teacher, and a coward. Since then I have had numerous taichi teacher who were REAL teacher, and I have learned a lot more from them than this guy can teach. To the instructor: Obviously you are a talented martial artist. But isn’t taichi an internal martial art as well? Perhaps you should realize how your power can impact people- with one powerful trip (more powerful then necessary to teach) you have successfully negatively impacted me for the rest of my life. You should think about that. Don’t injure people needlessly!!
