An interesting monument at Stadtpark is that of 19th century landscape painter, Emil Jakob Schindler. You can find this statue between the lake, bridge and small canal transecting the park. The marble statue was created by Austrian sculptor, Edmund von Hellmer in 1895, a year after Schindler's death. Here you see Schindler in a relaxed, slightly reclined position resting upon a rough and uneven mound like structure, which likely represents the natural contours of land and landscapes, the subject matter for which the artist was renowned. The mound then rests upon a small, rectangular shaped pedestal. You can see the Schindler monument as well as quite a few others dedicated to Austrian composers, writers and artists which are scattered throughout the park. My recent visit was on a snowy day, which made for interesting monument viewing.

An overlooked statue, especially so close to the golden Strauss.
